Every day I see an increasing amount of advertisements for very noob friendly web builders such as Wix, Weebly, or Square Space. These companies are trying hard to be the leader in website builders, but they never even come close to the true king on the block WordPress.
There are several reasons why these companies will never achieve the monumental success WordPress has. In this post, I will go over the reasons why building your website on these noob friendly platforms is likely not of your interest if we are talking about the long run.
Rigid and Not Flexible
First and foremost, these website builders are extremely limiting in what they allow the admin to do. In more technical terms, there is an infrastructural parameter you cannot go outside of on these platforms. This means that when you build your website on one of these noob friendly drag and drop platforms, you are bound to a certain degree of creativity and customization for your website. In the long run, if you want to implement, for instance, an improved method of collecting potential customers email and growing your customer database, then you would be out of luck. If you would want to integrate 3rd party software into your website to better suit your customer’s website experience, you would not be allowed to. There are millions of things that WordPress and custom HTML websites can do that Wix, Weebly, or Square Space will never allow you to do since you are being held within their infrastructures parameters.
If Your Time is Valuable, Stay Away From Wix, Weebly, and Square Space
The second big reason you may not want to involve yourself with a noobie web builder is time. First let us address the time it takes to create a website. For a first timer with medium technical skills, it may take between 30 – 50 hours to build their first basic 5 page website on a drag and drop. But here comes the kicker, because it was the first website you ever built on a drag and drop builder, you will likely dislike the results and spend the next couple of months constantly tweaking it until you are semi-happy with the finished product. Even after having spent 80+ hours on your website, it will likely not come close to the quality of your competitor’s website who paid for an actual website designer to do the work for them.
Loss of Customers Overtime Outweigh Professional Web Design Costs
The third reason is money. Did you know that the money you will lose by losing potential clients due to a poorly designed website over the years will dramatically outweigh the cost of a professionally designed website? A statistic released by Google Brain said that a potential customer who lands on an underdeveloped website will leave within the first 8 seconds of landing on your page. What happens after is your potential customer going to your competitor’s website via Google or other search engines, and once they are impressed with the interface of their website, they will give them a call for their products or services.
Wix is Horrible at SEO
One last thing. If SEO is important to you, stay away from Wix. They have a very poor search engine optimization tool that is ineffective and the worst part is that they do not offer 3rd party tools to replace this. If SEO is important to you, I recommend you try WordPress’s Yoast SEO 3rd party software plugin. It is the leading plugin in SEO and is used by lots of web design professionals.
